You may have heard that SEND (Special educational needs and disabilities) reforms are changing the way young people are supported.
We are positive about the role the new plans will play in ensuring our children and young people will be supported appropriately into adulthood. In school we are not expecting the change to EHCP’s (Education, Health and Care Plans) to make too much difference to our current Annual Review System, which is already ‘person-centred’ in its approach.
The local authority have planned a staged introduction to ‘converting’ existing statements into EHCPs with certain year groups having priority. All statements should be converted during the next 3 years. If your child’s statement is being converted to an EHCP this year this will be clearly explained to you.
Year groups 1,5,6,9 and 11 are the first year groups as these are considered to be transition points in a young person’s school career.
To help us with reviewing both statement and EHCPs now and in the future please fill in the parent return on your review invitation to ensure we invite any other professionals you are aware of who are involved in supporting your child; or even better, let the office know this at any time.
