Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)

Moderate Learning Difficulties

The majority of pupils at Croft have moderate learning difficulties. This is usually represented in terms of delay reaching milestones compared to their peers.

In reports you may have  seen terms such as a ‘centile’ or ‘percentile’ comparing levels in a specific area to their peers, for instance ‘verbal ability below the second centile meaning that out of 100 similar aged children 98 would be performing above this level’; or similar statement in an Educational Psychologist assessment report.

'Moderate learning difficulties' describes a pupil’s functioning but does not explain it  – the reason for their difficulties may or may not be related to the other categories of SEN, or in some cases is not identified.
