Visits in the local area

All teachers seek opportunities to enhance their curriculum planning with out of school visits which are an integral part of learning for each class – they give pupils important insights and experiences they cannot always have in the classroom.

We have a school minibus to transport pupils; this has to be shared between regular events such as college and swimming and educational visits.

The lead person conducts a risk assessment which is overseen and coordinated with Mr Collins who ensures that all out of school trips are compliant with County regulations and guidelines.

Where appropriate pupils take a packed lunch with them – please note that if your child usually has a school lunch the school will provide them with a packed lunch.  Please inform the school of your lunch choice if asked, so we can ensure the kitchen has ample notice.

When your son or daughter joins us at Croft you are asked to complete an overall consent form which covers students for most visits, although we do occasionally have to have an extra form, for example, residential visits.  You will still be informed about any out of school visits planned for your child through the year.

Examples of visits made this year are

  • Throstle Hole Buddhist Monastery
  • Beamish Museum
  • The Great North Museum
  • The local church
  • Durham Cathedral
  • The local supermarket and library
  • Dobbies Garden Centre
  • Local woodland

Where possible visits are not charged for – now and again we will ask for contributions to enable us to do something we could not otherwise afford.

You can find photos and reports about visits made in the NEWS, GALLERY or CLASS PAGES areas of the school website,
