Today, P15 engaged in an interactive workshop with a recovery worker and trainer from County Durham and Darlington Drug and Alcohol Service. They learned about the physical, social and psychological effects of drug and alcohol abuse, the difference between legal and illegal drugs, Class A, B and C drugs as well as investigating what drugs look like. The students especially enjoyed putting on the beer goggles and were shocked at how our vision and coordination are affected by alcohol!
Today Year 11 went to Beamish Museum to find out about the career opportunities, work experience and job training the organisation could offer young people. Pupils discussed and experienced working in various roles within the museum such as; communications, costume and design, artifacts and buildings, community and animal care. Pupils were given a full experience by dressing up in authentic dress and taking part in working tasks that took place in Edwardian and the 1950’s time periods.
Primary and Secondary students took part in an Anti-bullying assembly today discussing how pupils, staff and parents/carers can work together to stamp out bullying for good. Pupils and staff also received awards for their odd sock day challenge on Tuesday. #antibullyingweek2019 #changestartswithus
Staff and students met this week with Police Community Support Officers Callum and Megan to say goodbye and thank you for all the support they have given to students over the last year. Good luck in your new job roles!
WOW, what an amazing morning!! The whole school took part in the Joe Wicks’ live stream of the ‘Big Morning Move’ to raise money for Children in Need. All students in Primary and Secondary thoroughly enjoyed the exercises and all had big smiles as well as being red and sweaty!! What a good start to the day!
P4 enjoyed a trip to the cinema as a reward for all of the hard work and effort at school last half term.
It was a rainy day, but that didn’t spoil their fun.
They were also proud to show off their odd socks in support of Anti-Bullying Week.
After the half-term break we have been taking part in many different events. For remembrance day we organised a traveling shop that would come round the classes and sell poppy themed items. For anti-bullying week we are taking part in odd sock day.
Feeding families is a local charity set up to help those in need over Christmas who need a little bit of help putting food on the table during such an expensive time of year. As a school we are signed up to help a family in need and staff will be donating items to give to a family to help towards Christmas.
We know Christmas can be challenging and anyone can sign up on the Feeding Families website by the end of November to receive a Christmas food hamper. This will be anonymous and the only people to know about it will be the person delivering your hamper. Check out the website for more details.
